Mercury goes Direct, Neptune enters Capricorn

Mercury will end its Retrograde phase on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Mercury will return to its normal progress amongst the stars starting at 27 degrees in Leo. Since it takes a week or so for the planet to "get back up to speed", the effects of Mercury retrograde will linger for awhile. The significations of the planet of Rational Thinking will get further enhancement when it enters its own sign Virgo, in another week, on Oct. 4. Mercury's energy is essential to Making Decisions, a lot of which have been delayed or put on hold over the past weeks. The return of Mercury to normal motion, plus its entry into Virgo, will encourage better decision making.
Mercury is the planet signifying Communications, therefore The News. Since Mercury has been opposite Uranus, the planet of Unexpected Events, there have been surprising developements in the News, such as the Terrorist Bomber discovered in Denver, and the Secret Nuclear factory in Iran. When Mercury is re-entering Virgo in a week, and again simultaneously directly opposite Uranus, there will likely be more Unexpected News Events.
Neptune, the planet of Dreams and Idealism, in its retrograde period, has been creeping along in the zodiac at the very end of Aquarius, and will "back into" Capricorn this week. Uranus, also retrograde, will likewise be "backing into" Aquarius a few days later. Next weekend, both Mercury and Mars will change signs as well, simultaneous with a Full Moon next Saturday, Oct. 3.
When a number of planets change signs at the same time, especially during a turning point in the Lunar cycle, it creates a rather unstable situation. Therefore this week, and next, have an energy pattern suggesting change and transition. Best to wait for the transition to be complete before starting anything important.

Autumn Equinox, Durga Ashtami

Tuesday, September 22 is the Autumnal Equinox, when the Sun passes over the Celestial Equator as it heads towards the Southern Hemisphere. In Vedic Astrology this is a Sankranti, or ingress: the Sun is moving into a new area of the Heavens with respect to the Earth. Similar to a planet exiting one sign and entering another, it is considered auspicious for Spiritual Observances, but unfavorable for starting material endeavors, since the energy is "in transition" and therefore unstable. Avoid three days before and after Sept. 22 for beginning important new projects.
Saturday, September 26, is the 8th day of the lunar month of Ashwin, celebrated during Navratri (see previous post) as Durga Ashtami, a very auspicious day for religious ceremony to gain the favor of Durga, the great Hindu Goddess representing the Protective Energy of the Female Aspect of the Divine Principle. Fasting during the day on Saturday, followed by ritual purification and eating of a pure vegetarian meal, along with chanting Durga Mantra (e.g., "Aum, Doom, Shri Durgayei Namaha"), is recommended.
Mercury continues its retrograde phase until Sept. 29. Mercury, moving "backwards" in the zodiac, will be conjunct Saturn at 1 degree Virgo Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22, and simultaneously opposite to Uranus, situated in the 1st degree of Pisces. This is an unstable combination, with a high potential for misunderstanding, and therefore to be avoided for making important decisions.

Venus enters Leo, New Moon with Saturn

Tuesday, September 15, Venus will enter Leo in the Sidereal Zodiac. Although Leo is not considered a favorable sign for Venus, the good news is that Venus will have escaped the influence of malefic Ketu (see previous posts). Leo is also the sign of Kings and Governments, and since Venus is a natural benefic, the leaders of the world will be getting more favorable energy for the next few weeks.
In your personal Astrology chart, if you have planets or important points in Leo, the significations of that part of your life will benefit.
The New Moon this month will be at 2 degrees in Virgo, on Fiday, September 18. This marks the beginning of the Lunar Month of Ashwin, noted for Good Beginnings. However, since Mercury is Retrograde at this time, it is not considered so favorable for initiating important new projects. The Sun and Moon will be within 1 degree of conjunction with Saturn, as well as 3 degrees from retrograde Mercury, meaning that the coming lunar month will carry with it the energy of Saturn, the planet of Limits and Restrictions, as well as the energy of a "backwards" Mercury, incorporating delays and errors.
However, the first 9 days of the new lunar month of Ashwin, are famous as days for Spiritual Practices, specifically known as Shardiya Navaratri, a time of religious ceremony for asking the favor of the Mother Goddess for Protection and Alleviating Difficulties in the coming year. The celebrations begin on the first day of the lunar month (Sept. 19 in India, or Sept. 18 in the USA due to time zone difference). (More details on this week's Podcast, available Monday evening)

Mercury Retrograde, Saturn enters Virgo

Sunday, September 6, Mercury will begin its retrograde phase at 12 degrees in Virgo.
The planet appears to reverse its progress through the zodiac due to the Earth moving ahead of Mercury with respect to the background of the stars. The Significations of Mercury are distorted over the coming weeks: Communications, Messages, Business Transactions, Equipment, etc. tend to have more problems than usual. This Mercury Retrograde period will experience more than the usual difficulties due to the influence of Mars (see previous posts). The month of September is Unfavorable for Coming to Agreements and should be avoided for initiating important new endeavors. Mercury will end its retrograde phase and return to normal motion on September 29.
Saturn enters Virgo on Wednesday, September 9. Saturn's transit through Leo (since July 2007) has been a difficult time for this planet's significations. Although the sign Virgo is more favorable for Saturn's energies, initially Saturn will be having some trouble when it enters Virgo due to the opposition of Uranus, situated across the zodiac at 1 degree Pisces. The Significations of Uranus, the planet of Unexpected Events, clash with those of Saturn, the planet of The Established Order, leading to instability and the potential for disruption in the world.
Saturn takes about 30 years to make a complete circuit of the Zodiac. The last time Saturn was in Virgo was 1979 to 1981.
In the chart of the USA, the natal Saturn occupies Virgo, in the 10th house. This is partly why the USA wants to control the world. The last time Saturn returned to Virgo was when the Iranian Revolution took place, the Iran Hostage Crisis happened, Ronald Reagan was elected President, and the USA went through a major recession, with 13% unemployment.
